The International Union of Folklore Associations (IGF) is ready to welcome Belarus among its members. The information is provided by Oleg Khmelkov, Director of the Mogilev Regional Folk Art and Culture Center, chairman of the council of directors of Belarusian regional folk art centers.
President of the International Union of Folklore Associations Dorel Cosma (Romania) and General Secretary Rosen Bogdanov paid an official visit to Mogilev region. They got acquainted with the cultural and spiritual heritage of the region, its folk music groups and craftsmen. The delegation was also interested in the issues of revival and preservation of intangible cultural heritage.
Dorel Cosma believes that Belarus has a unique and rich cultural heritage. Belarus pays a lot of attention to the revival and preservation of traditions, local folklore, development and promotion of arts and crafts. “Belarus deserves to be represented in the International Union of Folklore Associations, as it has valuable experience which it can share with other countries. For Belarus it will be interesting to study international practices and to develop cooperation in the field of preservation of cultural heritage,” Dorel Cosma said.
Dorel Cosma presented a special certificate and the IGF emblem to the Mogilev Regional Folk Art and Culture Center. He informed that the admission of Belarus to the association would be considered at an extended meeting in May 2014.
